New 21st Century Learning Environment at Fort Rucker Elementary School

SchenkelShultz is designing Fort Rucker Elementary School Replacement, a modern 21st century learning environment in Alabama for the Department of Defense for Education Activity (DoDEA). The 133,542 SF project was awarded to SchenkelShultz under the firm’s Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Norfolk District. Featuring state-of-the-art technology and movable furniture, the school’s flexible spaces, known as learning studios, will replace traditional classrooms with integrative instruction and open into collaborative learning hubs. Slated to open in the spring of 2018, the new school is designed to achieve LEED® Silver certification from the U.S. Green Building Council and will be built on the site of the existing facility at Fort Rucker Army Base
