SunRidge Elementary and Middle School

Winter Garden, FL

Orange County Public Schools

In order to create a shared campus for the Winter Garden community, SchenkelShultz began the design of the SunRidge Elementary and Middle School campus by creating an innovative program that allowed for the schools to operate independently on the same site, while sharing components that create a cost effective and cohesive campus. The design of the K-8 campus was inspired by a Florida Traditional architecture featuring standing seam metal roofs, decorative brackets, sunshades and wood finishes. In order to create a shared campus, SchenkelShultz adapted the District’s elementary school program by identifying facilities at the middle school that could be utilized by both the K-5 and 6-8 students. The two schools share a cafeteria, kitchen, and centralized HVAC plant. In addition, the 89,289 SF elementary and 171,674 SF middle schools shared bus loop and athletic fields have been sited so they can be utilized by the local community.
