UF Newell Hall

Gainesville, FL

University of Florida

The University of Florida’s historic Newell Hall has been transformed into a state-of-the-art Active Learning Commons. Improvements included renovating the existing building into an open, flexible and technology-rich environment designed to encourage students to work with one another in a highly collaborative and interactive format. Additionally, the design included areas on each floor for quiet focus and rejuvenation.

The new Learning Commons, designed in association with Robert A.M. Stern Architects, is equipped with a variety of flexible and comfortable furniture options to encourage student learning and informal idea-sharing. The Newell Hall Annex is an addition to the existing facility, which includes offices for staff, as well as a café that provides access to food service and a casual place for students to collaborate and gather.
